Meet J+A

Welcome to Unordinary Love! Home of a builder and a beautifier, the duo behind making this blog happen.

We have been happily married for just over four years and currently live in our very first home in Lansing, Michigan. Our Pacific Northwest roots make the midwest feel foreign and far away. This blog is our way of connecting with those we love and anyone else who wants to follow along.

Our life together has led us from Washington --> Colorado --> Michigan. We're planting our roots here for now, but are up for wherever life takes us next. Along the way we hope to pursue an unordinary love in our home, around our table, and all across the country.

>> Meet A <<

Hi! I am Ariel, the beautifier, cook, hostess, wife, soon-to-be-mom, party planner, teacher, and all the little details gal behind Unordinary Love. Our home is where I dream about people gathering. Gathering around the table for good food; gathering around the bonfire for late night laughs; and gathering around the TV for football weekends. I want our home to be warm, welcoming, and full of love. I want it to be a place that is beautiful, not in a stuffy, fancy way, but in an inviting, comfortable way. This little home of ours is just that, OURS. I want it to feel like us and to feel like home. If I had all the time and resources in the world, my home would be brimming with DIY projects and my favorite new trends. Unfortunately, time and resources do not abound, but I make do with what I have and I turn this ordinary house into our unordinary home. I hope you find some inspiration in this little blog world of ours. Follow along and leave a note to say hi!

The builder and handy man in our dynamic duo. This man is the love of my life and my very best friend. He somehow manages life as an orthopedic resident, husband, soon-to-be-dad, honey-do-list completer, and furniture maker with ease. This man truly blows me away everyday with his ability to accomplish so much while also loving me so well. He cares about our home in ways that most men don't by truly appreciating the process of making the house a home.

>> Unordinary Love - What Does That Mean? <<

Unordinary love (noun): a unique love designed by God; a love that goes against all odds; a love that I hope to live out in my everyday life

As you may have guessed, this isn't a real definition. I made it up. I admit it. But that doesn't mean it's not true, right?

Here are a few examples of the unordinary love in my life.

This blog. If you were to ask my freshman year college roommate if I would ever be capable of compiling a blog full of recipes and DIY projects, she would likely laugh in your face. It wasn't all that long ago that my menu of favorite foods included easy mac, fruit snacks, popcorn, and pre-made anything. Okay, I have to admit that I still love fruit snacks and popcorn, but those aren't the only things on my daily menu.

Medicine. My husband has an unordinary love for medicine (and for studying - or should I say "learning"?). His passion, drive, and desire for it doesn't make logical sense. Who willingly chooses to spend 10 years (after college) in school and training?

Family and Friends. I live across the country from the majority of my friends and family. It's sad, it's hard, it's undesired. But through an unordinary love, I remain connected.

Marriage. A guy and girl with extremely different personalities are supposed to live together forever? Seriously? How do we come up with these things? It sounds crazy if you think about it, but in all seriousness, it takes a special kind of love to make marriage work. It's a love that truly goes against all odds. I'm happy to be fighting the odds with my husband!

God. The most unordinary love of all. He sacrificed His Son to save me, an unworthy sinner. His grace covers me, His faithfulness carries me, and His love fills me.

Do you have an unordinary love? Something that you never dreamed of loving and now you do? Or something you had to fight for? Please feel free to share - I'd love to hear about the unordinary love in your life.
